Atletico Madrid secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Osasuna at El Sadar in La Liga’s 36th round, despite playing with 10 men for the final 11 minutes. The win moved Osasuna provisionally three points clear of the relegation zone, though they have played one more game than their rivals.
The match took a decisive turn in the 15th minute when Javier Galan handled the ball inside the box, conceding a penalty. Ademola Lookman stepped up and calmly slotted home to give Atletico a 1-0 lead. 
Shortly after, Osasuna’s Moi Gomez was forced off through injury, replaced by Robin Le Normand.
Osasuna had chances to equalize, most notably when Ante Budimir squandered a one-on-one opportunity after Koke’s misplaced pass. In the 71st minute, Atletico doubled their lead: Marcos Llorente delivered a precise cross from the right, and substitute Alexander Sorloth rose highest to power a header into the net.
However, the visitors were reduced to 10 men in the 79th minute when Llorente received a second yellow card for a foul on Oroz. Osasuna pushed forward and pulled one back deep into stoppage time, as Ruben Garcia turned and fired home in the 90+1st minute.
Atletico goalkeeper Jan Oblak made several crucial saves, including a point-blank denial of Budimir’s header and a late stop from an Osasuna corner. The hosts also had a penalty overturned after VAR review when Oblak was adjudged to have made contact with the ball first.
The result keeps Atletico in contention for a top-four finish, while Osasuna remain in the relegation battle with three matches left.
