FC Barcelona clinched the La Liga title after defeating Real Madrid in El Clásico, a result that not only handed them the trophy but also capped off a disappointing season for the white team. With no silverware, inconsistent performances in key moments, and internal locker room issues, Real Madrid watched their eternal rival seize the decisive stretch to claim the league crown.
On ‘El Chiringuito’, José Luis Sánchez was highly critical of Real Madrid’s season following Barça’s victory. He did not hold back in pointing out the team’s lack of competitive edge: “This is about a club that hasn’t respected its own history. For four months of competition, everything unraveled after Vinicius was substituted in El Clásico,” referring to the controversy surrounding Xabi Alonso’s decision to replace the player in the 71st minute.
The journalist also stressed that, in his opinion, the league title was within Real Madrid’s reach based on squad quality, but not on performance: “This is a team that hasn’t respected itself. With this squad and in this mediocre league, Real Madrid should have won La Liga easily.”
Sánchez slammed the lack of intensity shown by the team, as well as the players’ lack of professionalism and responsibility: “Please, this is elite football. If you want to win a league, you have to respect the jersey you wear. Madrid has been far from respecting it in this second half of the season.” He also analyzed El Clásico, stating that Barça were “just okay” and that Real Madrid still did nothing: “They didn’t press, didn’t bite, didn’t go for the ball—they lost almost every duel.”
Looking ahead, Sánchez offered a reflection on Real Madrid’s future after Barcelona’s title: “This summer, the president has to step up and say: who is untouchable? No one. After these two years, no one.”
